I know. But, where is the “Build-A-Bear Store?” As I squinted at the fine print on the map in the mall and tried to orient myself, my four-year-old granddaughter, Laura, was running at warp speed down the aisle with no idea where she was going. In her purple and white poke-a-dot shirt, hot pink tights and her flying blonde hair, she didn’t know where she was going, but knew her destination would be fun.
Meanwhile, my eyes were fixed — “You are here!”
Most of us know where we are, but do you know where you want to go? Are you feeling slightly disoriented by all demands of daily life? Are you ready to run into fun, even if you are not quite sure where it is? I have always been jealous of people who knew exactly where they were going as if they had an internal GSP. For the rest of us, it takes a plan. One of my colleagues goes off for a few days at the end of every year and maps out a one-year and three-year life plan. Others reach out to a coach for help.
A great read and bestseller — “What Got You Here, Won’t Get You There” by Marshall Goldsmith, outlines twenty habits to achieve positive change, and the potential for a fast run toward your “Build-A-Bear” store.
You are here … where do you want to go? Let the journey begin.
